Virginia joined Gateway Mortgage on January 23, 2009 with 25 years experience in the mortgage business. She is a Zion-Benton High School and Carthage College graduate, and from 1969 to 1981 she taught English at Tremper High School. From 1981 to 1983 she was a business finance writer for Kandan Creative in Chicago, and continued free-lance business writing until 1987. In 1983 she co-founded Midwest mortgage Company in Chicago and Glenview, Illinois, continuing as Vice President until 1995 when she formed her own company, Cardinal Mortgage, and returned to Wisconsin.
Believing the future of third-party originators (companies that cannot fund their own loans) is uncertain, she decided to close Cardinal Mortgage and originate loans for a local company funding its own loans that has in-house underwriting, local servicing, and household name status in the community. Her first choice was Gateway Mortgage and happily, her transition from self-employed to employed is now complete.
